Suggestions for a low cost camera

Ex Kodak employee who has been a film man for most of his lfe. Decided to migrate to digital for my macro photography. Need suggestions for basic outfit with a low budget!

Hi there Alec and welcome to the forum.
As far as your enquiry goes, it would be helpful if you gave a figure for your budget because your "low" may be different to another's. Also have a play with the search function as your question crops up a lot.

Well, not being "THAT" interested in digital photograpy I would suggest £200-£250.(used) I also do not want to spend a lot of money taking me down a route that will not be compatable to me:'(
I still love my OM-1 and film photograpy but for my macro work a DSLR would be preferable, (some people never change:) )
Any ideas would be appreciated

hate to say it but you'll have a hard time getting a DSLR and macro lens for £250.

Best you can do is get an old DSLR body such as the Sony alpha a200 for £200 and then get a 50mm lens for around £100 and then some extension tubes for around £50. This may not work well for bugs and insects though :)
 
You could easily pick up a used Canon 350D for under £150, but I don't know if you'd be able to get a macro lens for the remaining £100.
As Luke said though, you'd be able to get a 50mm lens for around £60 for the Canon and could get macro rings, but you might struggle on some subjects.
 
Tamron Adaptall-2 ƒ/2.5 90mm for £100 or less. If it has an N/AI mount for Nikon, or PK (or PKA) for Pentax, that may sway choice of body. If no mount, then an M42 mount can screw into an adapter for Canon.

He probably could. I got my 90mm f/2.5 for £80 and the adapter was £17.
This is what I got (excluding the adapter, hood & case) for my £80.

Will be interesting to see how much this goes for.

And the adapter retains infinity focus without any corrective elements.

And you'll be able to get some manual tubes very cheaply from amazon or ebay.

It's doable for sure.

Well if you have a macro lens for your OM camera, you could perhaps adapt it to dSLR.

You could start as low as you wish. 20D is well under £200 used.

Proper glass will cost more though, but you could build the collection at your own pace.
