Suggestions please re 2 primes or decent zoom

Having bought another nikon d3300 i am considering rebuying the 35 and 85 which i had before and liked, around £500 new. Any ideas for an equivilent zoom both in focal length and quality for a similar price?

Nikon 16-85mm would be the obvious choice. Doesn't have the same maximum apertures as the primes but still one of the best all-rounders available.
 
Depending on how wide / tele you want the obvious choices would be either a Tamron 17-55 or 28-25, both of which are pretty small and light (so will balance on the D3200), constant f/2.8 and can be had cheaply.

Obviously noting will replace the fast apertures of the primes lenses.
 
You will struggle to beat the 16-85 on DX, considering the optical compromises that have to be made in the design of a zoom lens of this range at this price point, it performs really well and is a very good value lens!
