A quick trip up a local hill this evening. Waves of snow were blowing in as the sun went down, making for some ethereal light.

I like that a lot, an awful lot, I love the range of light and shadow from the left to the right of the image along with the depth of the image from front to back caused by the differing strength of the shadows but it's unfortunately marred by a dirty sensor, particularly the left of the image.

Thanks It's not a dirty sensor, it's a snow storm blowing through from behind me towards the sunset.

I read from your post what's going on, but I don't see it in the image, sorry.
To me it just seems like an underexposed shot of a dreary day.

I can see what you're going for, but it darkens too much for me away from the sun. If you could lift some of the shadow area a bit to bring out more of the layers and texture it would benefit.
