If you can find a decent one the old Panasonic TZ5, TZ6 etc........... were great metal built cameras, I regretted when I sold my TZ5 and thought I was upgrading. I have had a few smallish cameras since, X20, XF1, TZ18, TZ35, HX20 etc...... and when I look back at some of the pictures taken with the compacts, the TZ5 just seems right, if that makes sense. I dont know if there is too much flex in these newer longer zooms on the modern ones??

My wife has the XF1, which is a great camera but with limited zoom and I purchased a TZ35 from Argos before Christmas for £99.00. I returned it a few days later as the pictures were poor, I tried different settings and I couldn't get a decent pic out of it. Probably a faulty camera or me!. I'm in the market for a pocket camera and I think I will keep an eye out for a older mint TZ5 or similar.

It seems that Amazon have 2nd hand TZ6 at £69.99
or what they are calling the later model TZ55EB at £139.99

Panny do seem to be quite a popular choice, in the thread

I have had four of the Panny compacts and the last one was faulty, TZ35. I liked the weight of the TZ5 and my feeling now is that 300mm is long enough for me. The ones when I have had the longer zooms were only ok for record shots IMO.

No problem. The offer's there if you change your mind (I've got an XF1 and MFT kit so it's just a paperweight!).

The Panny TZs are pretty much the market leader in this segment. The latest flagship TZ60 even had a tiny EVF. Should be available at a good price with the replacement model due next month.

I was driving passed Tesco earlier so I thought it'd be rude not to drop by and have a play with the
Panny TZ's and the canon power shot, they had a couple of each.
The thing that struck me was how small they become.
The Fuji s8200 felt quite nice but it was a little lager than I was aiming at though.

Oh and I set the alarms off too, so slowly walked away
