Surge protection

After my electrics blowing badly and looking like dodgy work by a (registered) electrician. I have been thinking about protecting my computer system better from electric surges etc.

Anyone got anything they would recommend? Would like to hear what options and price ranges there are out there to do the job

depends on your budget, a simple surge protection multi-way socket or a full UPS system for example..

Is ups the battery backup system? Would be interested in this but obv difference in price will decide. Any links to decent quality in both? When I have looked struggle to find ones for computer use (surge protesters that is)

Would you not be better getting the suspected dodgy electrics checked out by a proper spark at the moment rather than worrying about he computer. I'd be afraid to sleep at night until I was sure electrics ok

Already on that! Trying to find someone to get it done as don't trust last guy any more even though he is well recommended. Just obviously loosing all my images would be a nightmare

For UPS's take a look at APC's web site on the link below, I have used them for years from full blown mainframes to individual pc's they will have one to suite if you need any advice message me happy to help but without knowing your power requirements cant really specify a size, would imagine you will be spending around £300.

The software that comes with it allows you pc to be shutdown automatically when the batteries run out etc etc

Thanks for the advice John, I came to the conclusion I can't afford to go £300 at the moment, so am going to invest in a surge protecter from APC.

This is what I am going for. It seems to do the job, and although not as good as UPS, will be something I can afford now rather than in a years time.

Yep any protection is better than no protection (as the actress said to the bishop), just be carefull if u ever have to take it apart the old style used to have a capacitor in them and even with no power to it can deliver an bit of a jolt.
