Suspected lens problem?

I have a canon 70-300mm IS F4 lens, which I recently had checked over by a canon repairer and was told it was in perfect condition.

Today, when I focus the motor seems to be rumbling on alot longer than usual. it's not hunting as the focus bleeps straight away near enough, and shots taken are perfectly ok. So why is the motor rumbling on so long? (Probably around 2 seconds or so) Please help! Thanks :)
 
Hi again Tori! It's not the focus it's the IS that's making the noise. This is common on this lens. Don't worry about it, you get used to it.
 
But it's never made this noise before? Or I've certainly not noticed it!
 
Your senses are sharper since you gave up smoking :lol:

Mine has made this noise since I first got it. Have you tried switching off the IS and trying it.
 
Yep. It'll be the image stabiliser working.

Don't know that lens ? 70-200 F4 IS or 70-300 F4-F5.6 IS ?
 
Strangways....LOL! Maybe! Or it's made me paranoid!

It's the 70-300mm IS, when I get home I'll try it with the IS off and see what happens. Thanks for the speedy replies, I was a tad concerned! :)
 
I have this lens and it is noisy but it's more noticeable if your in a quiet place. If there's noise from elsewhere the lens noise isn't as noticeable. Have you been using it somewhere quiet and therefore noticed it more?
 
Possibly....I just thought I'd have noticed that's all. I'll experiment again later and let you know what I find! :)
 
yes, with the IS turned off it's silent. I have no idea why I hadn't noticed it before, but at least I know what it is now thanks :)

Yes I think everyone will have gone through this at some point, esp if they've used the lens for a bit and only just noticed it.
