Yes
i was wondering if i sold both my D700 and other things to buy a D3S would it be a good idea?

why do you want a D3s?

I think it's a great idea, or at least I will do in a couple of weeks when I'm on the lookout for another D700.

If you're a pro (i.e., you do this for a living) - which I am presuming you are given you have 2 pro bodies - then rolling that into one body is not a good idea, imo. Clean performance at ISO 1 million is no good if your (one and only) camera buggers up seconds before "you may kiss the bride" now is it?!

It depends actually. Do you ever use both bodies? If you're confident that you wont need to, then yes it's a good idea. Whats the point of having a second body lying around if you don't use it.
You've obviously already looked at the D3x and D3s and decided the D3s is more suited to you, so if all of the above computes, then do it.

i only use one body at a timeand not a pro but wanted FX a backup.
the more i read about the D3S performance at low light and in normal conditions it just seems so desirable.
the write up in the grays nikon magazine this mounth makes it sound so good while still pointing out the minor niggles.

Then yes, you should it. The d3s is quite a different beast :)

Kev makes a very good point. I've got a couple of D700's and would like to have D3's instead.
Don't need them, the D700's are all I need for work and pleasure. But....I WANT !!
Can't afford them, so it's pretty academic for me. Your situation....only you can call it !!
Sorry if all this isn't actually any help.

Where do you live? You could have a play with mine :eek::eek: if you're not too far away.
Maybe another member lives nearer to you and you can play with theirs. :naughty:

if you need the low light and don't need two bodies (back up or whatever) then go for it.

i reckon i'd probably swap my d3 and d700 for a d3s problem is sometimes i really don't want a full sized body

I thought exactly the same thing for what I shoot. I now find myself using the D3s 99.9% of the time. I can't remember the last time I used the D300.
