swap?

The swap says 550D or higher anyway.

What would a D3000 do that your 500D can't?
Seems a bit of a pointless swap, they are both quite recent past generation entry level cameras with a good reputation each. I fail to see what advantage you'd get from having the D3000 instead of a 500D.
 
I texted him about my 500d and he said he would swap but I wasn't sure that's why I asked the pro's :-)
 
Depends what you like to photograph.

It also depends on what lenses you have now :)
 
What lenses and other accessories do you have/would offer to trade?
 
He only wants the camera and the 18-55mm lens

A 500D and 18-55 for a D3000, 18-55, 50mm (albiet manual focus on the D3000), 70-300 (not as good as your 55-250 though), sb-900 and a bag?

If he's legit, you could take the swap, sell it all on ebay and buy back a used 500D and 18-55 and make a profit.

It sounds far to good to be true, I would want to visit him to have a look at all this stuff before trading.

Definitely try and get to try the stuff out before swapping.

On second thoughts, I'm now very suspicious. Why would he trade his tripod and bag with it? Those two things would be perfectly useful to keep. The tripod is pretty much essential for video stuff.
