I've recently bought a 5D (mark I) and a 50mm f1.4. I enjoy shooting with a prime and have taken some lovely portrait shots but I find a lot of my other shots are lacking "punch" - often the subject seems lost, for want of a better description.
I've been considering getting a 28mm prime to allow me to get closer to (non-human) subjects in an attempt to rectify this but am wondering if it makes sense to keep my 50mm if I do so? Would I be better off trading in the 50 for an 85mm at the same time, giving me a better portrait lens as well? Is 50mm a focal length that some people just don't gel with?
Or is it me, rather than my gear? Should I just work on my composition more with my 50mm before spending more money?
