I'm thinking about changing camera, I have an Olympus E420 and Ive been looking at a Canon EOS 500D and wanted to know if its a good one to go for and if its much better than the one Ive already got. Thanks

The Olympus is not a bad camera in it's own right, not sure the 5000D would see much of an upgrade, maybe a used 40D would be a better step up.

Yeah Im wasnt sure but the canon is a 15 mega pixel and mine is a 10 as well as the e420 struggles really badly in low light. Any more advice is very welcome.

Don't bother about the pixel count unless you are enlarging above A3 6Mg is enough.
The latest developments in digital have been in faster auto focusing and better images in lower light, don't know about Canon models, but the latest model you can afford will get you better low light images IMHO.

The 500D is a great little camera, but the pixel count doesn't really improve low light capabilities. That is down to the sensor and in camera processing. As Tony said, it may be better to look for a used 40D. I think that is a better option.

So since the pixels will help me be able to produce better quality larger prints does that mean that if I was to zoom in on a picture on the computer like cropping right down that it would be sharper than it is with mine. How much is the 40D? is there much of a difference?
