Right guys thinking for swapping my Canon slr gear for something smaller. The usual not using it due to size and weight etc... So moving form a 60d...

Seen the Fuji x-e1 on a goo package deal and seems pretty good. But before I jump into anything for around the same price (450) what else should I be looking at?

Fuji lenses are bloody good though priced to match! Personally find the XF range better than the older XC lenses, although the extra reach available from the 50-230 is a draw over the 55-200.
 
If you want smallest option which includes lenses go m4/3. If you go apsc mirrorless the lenses still have some size to them.

I can fit a Em5 with 12-50 in my coat pocket.

I could not fit a xe2 with 18-55 in the same coat.

It depends how much smaller you want/need.

So many great options to choose from....good luck!
 
Am loving my x e1, took it out the other day in a small bag, Lee filters in pouch in pocket ,bliss aftert the size of my canon, just need to sort a smaller tripod now
 
Sony e mount another option

Or join the sigma dp or Ricoh gr group
Small and flat out killer quality
 
I've just gone from nikon to olympus. After 5 years with Nikon it was a leap of faith.

Any regrets for me ? Absolutely none. All the IQ ( and more ) at 50% of the weight. What I used to have in 2 rucksacks I now have in half of the smaller one and still have loads of space.

You need a coat with bigger pockets ;) I used to carry my Xpro-1 & XT1 with 35mm lens attached in my pockets. Theres not much difference in size between the 35mm and 16-50mm. As a general walkabout lens the 35mm is hard to beat although you do lose the flexability of the zoom.

As for the two lenses with the XE1 I can confirm they produce fantastic images for kit lenses. To me. I have had both and the 18-55 & 55-200mm lenses and although slower the XC lens IQ performance wasn't noticeablly different to the more expensive XF lenses. IMHO Fuji don't make a bad lens, and I have had a few.

The Oly is a good camera, but for me the buttons are a tad on the smaller size for an only camera as I have large hands with disabilities. As a back up I could live with it and I'm considering one to go with my D750.

Edit: The only thing you need to check with the Fuji is the AF going to be fast enough for you, not sure on the Oly cameras but the XE1 will probably be slower to AF than your Canon.

What canon gear do u have I have a mint black xe2 with 16-50 and 50-230 for sale in the classifieds but I'm a canon man and would be up,for swaps if anything appeals...
 
I looked long and hard at Fuji and I still occasionally read a couple of Fuji blogs but I'm put off by the possible/arguable raw processing issues and also the repeated discussions on how to get the best focus performance and if it's an issue or not.

I went for the Sony A7 for luxury and quality in a small form and for MFT for compact and good enough for everyday quality. To me Fuji falls in the middle in a no mans land between the A7 and MFT as I don't believe that Fuji can match the ultimate quality achievable from the A7 (although I accept that in 99.9% of shots there'll be no difference unless pixel peeping like a mad thing) and also can't match the campact package and portability of MFT. And then there's the possible raw processing and focus issues.

I can see the appeal and Fuji seem to have a large and growing fan base but at the moment it's not for me.

Dont know if your fishing, but I wouldn't call Sony a luxury brand, who is in photography??? Anyway.......................

Before Christmas I sold my Fuji XT1 due to the delay in the supertele as I am getting more into bird photogrpahy at home and was struggling with manual tele lenses due to disabilities. When looking for a replacement I asked on the A7 thread for what longer lenses Sony made and went to compare the Sony & Fuji at my local Sony store. I took my XT1 along with me with the 18-55mm kit lens fitted and a I run a number of shots off with the Fuji and A7 with kit lens to compare.

When I got home and viewed the pictures, to my eyes I couldn't see any difference in IQ between the two and I was a little suprised by the quality of the Sony kit lens due to some of the negatives I have seen written and comparing against the highly praised Fuji lens.. I prefered the EVF on the XT1 and I also thought the AF was quicker, so not sure what focus issues you are refering to. With good primes on both, there's probably nothing in it. Also, the quality of the JPEGS out of the Fuji need little, if any processing and I couldn't then see the point of shooting in RAW, which is the case of a lot of users.

I decided in the end to go with the Nikon D750 due to the available longer lenses and I will possibly buy a M4/3 camera when funds allow for a going out camera. I nearly pulled the trigger on a GX7 over the New Year but they went out of stock and the double cashback was finishing. Wex were also chucking in a free Panny battery.

Deffo not fishing/flaming/trolling or whatever... all views and opinions expressed are purely mine and are genuine.

I have looked closely at Fuji and I do still read the blogs and try to keep up with developments just in case I do decide to jump but the issues that put me off do put me off but I can see and feel the love even allowing for the widely spoken about focus foibles which you haven't come across. Focus may not be an issue for you and may not be for me as I tend to be slow and deliberate and not a machine gunner but it seems to be a subject which has been discussed at length on line multiple times and at length. Google and you should be able to quickly find some discussion.

As for Sony and luxury. Sony is not a brand to be mentioned in the same sentence as Leica and that's not the luxury I mean. What I mean is that I see my A7 as a camera which I can use on special occasions when I have the time to take care and want the best potential image quality I can get from any of my kit, not a camera to put in a cabinet and just talk about or fondle now and again. I bought my A7 basically for two reasons, to use old manual lenses on and also to take pictures of family and friends and favourite locations and things for my own pleasure when I want the best quality I can get. I do try to resist the urge to be a geek and pixel peep but I do still do it and although I do feel that my MFT cameras produce very good pictures which in whole image form are easily lost amongst my 5D and even A7 pictures there's no denying that if I look closely enough the A7 is the best camera, image quality wise, that I've ever had. The oft repeated and oft challenged view that bigger is better when it comes to sensor size may only be true when pushing at the very edges of performance capabilities but if you really do want to look and find the differences I think that they are there to be found.

Although I think that 35mm equivalent "FF" offers the best potential image quality for walk about hand held shooting I do think that APS-C is possibly the sweet spot (for hand held shooting) but I also feel that MFT isn't that far behind APS-C to matter. If I could only have one system maybe it would be an APS-C CSC system but at the moment I feel the need to have two systems, one for ultimate quality and one for good enough quality but in a more compact form and it's for those reasons that the Fuji falls into no mans land for me. If the issues which bother me all went away with some future Fuji camera then maybe I could be tempted to Fuji's middle ground. Who knows.

Thanks for all your thoughts and opinions guys, in the end I did opt Fuji. Reasons being I like the look of them, I like the quality that comes out of them (other peoples photos/samples) and I like the look of the lens line-up that is on offer.

I did look at the Sony A7 and a few other Woof and I do like the look/sound of them too, maybe something for me in the future :D This will be my 6th camera in 4 years so who knows I maybe have one quite soon haha
 
I have had the Fuji XE-1, Xpro1 and XT1 and I agree that the AF was slowish on the XE & Xpro but IMO the XT1 came close to my old DSLR, which was a Nikon D7000. I knew the limitations like you for AF compared to a DSLR before purchasing. There has been progressive change through the three Fuji's I have owned and I have never had a problem with the Af as I knew what I was buying into. I changed from the Xpro to XT as I was having a problems with the EVF (medically, and only really applied to me). For me, the AF was quick enough on the XT for garden bird photogrpahy which I have grown into and it keeps me sane being home allday. I only changed to the FF D750 as I wanted the Fuji IQ plus the available longer lenses, if Fuji hadn't delayed thier supertele, I wouldn't have changed to Nikon. I just wish I had enough cash to have both.

I'm keeping an eye on M4/3 for my going out camera as the DSLR is too heavy for me to lug around.
