Can you recopy a transparancy on to digital format. i am an old hand with 35mm film some years ago, My old and trusty Canon T90 has served me well over the years still in good working order. But has not been used for some years regularly. I seam to have got the BUG back again and have been looking at digital cameras. You can copy transparacies onto digital with a scanner, either a speciality one which just does negative film or slides or a standard scanner with an adaptor, you'll get better results with a slide scanner but spend more money.

As for the bodies have a play at a shop before deciding, the D90 is probably the most advanced being basically a D300 in a prosumer body but they're all pretty good.
