tall tripods

Hi Guys,
I'm 1.98m tall and am having difficulty getting a decent tripod that is tall enough for me. I don't particularly want to have the central column too high as stability suffers. Any ideas?
Don't want more back ache.

The Gitzo 3540/3541/3542 XLS series is 198cm without a centre column and head.

I'm 6'3 so 1.91m and I use a Manfrotto 055XProB because I can use it with the centre column down without having to stoop much.

As Bob says, the Gitzo 3540XLS which I have is extremely tall and doesn't have a centre column.

Absolutely awesome tripod for anything, ranging from landscapes to long wildlife lens, but I guess it'll depend on your budget. 3 series Gitzos (mine cost £550 from Kerso a couple of years ago) start at about £600 now and this is just for the legs

Hi, I got one of these a while back and it kinda dwarfs me and I'm nearly 6 foot. It's very stable and very versatile and it converts to a monopod too. For the price it's an impressive piece of kit.

I'm 195cm and had a real pain trying to find a tripod I could use without killing my back. The continuous, albeit slight, bending needed for something like the 055XProB (142cm) soon built up into a real pain. So I ended up paying a lot of cash for something decent, and ended up getting the Induro CT313.

It goes up to 159cm without the column being raised, which brings the viewfinder about 1cm below eyeball level. It weighs 2.2kg, so it doesn't get taken on long hikes. But it will support 18kg and it is solid as a rock!

I'm 'only' 1,82m (but then I am a girl), but I have found many tripods to be a bit on the short side. I'm super happy with the Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 these days.
