Does it extend when going to 50mm end?

Noticed a few recommended it but never seen any results with it?

Would it be comparable over the sigma 17-70 f2.8 (IQ comparison)? i have a choice to make lol. I have seen pics of the sigma.
 
Yep, it extends. Doesn't go that long, maybe an extra 5cm. I love mine to bits, probably the best lens I've used pound-for-pound. The AF noise is a little whirry at times but it;s speedy and accurate and sharp as a sharp knife.

 
Yep, it extends but doesn't rotate. I love mine too, not tried the sigma 17-70 but I would hazard a guess that results will be the same, if not sharper, and you get the pleasure of f/2.8 all the way through the zoom range....
