Tamrac Zipshot - Experiences?

Saw this mentioned in another thread recently, but there wasn't much discussion about it, and doesn't seem to be all that much on the big old internet either.

Basically, i'm interested in practical experiences of people who've used it. I've got a cable release so no problems there, but is it steady enough for (say) a few seconds exposure time? Will it wobble in the slightest wind?

Also slightly concerned about the head - if i stick my Canon 500D with 15-85mm lens on it (which i reckon weighs in altogether at around 1.1kg) will the head hold it securely - particularly if i want it (say) pointing down a little bit? I got myself a Gorillapod SLR to use when travelling, but with the camera/lens combo above it really has to be perfectly balanced for the head to stay where i put it, otherwise it droops. Don't want another one like that.

Any thoughts, experiences? I'm going to be hiking and probably skiing a little bit with it, so my normal tripod really isn't an option.

I think you may be referring to the travel tripod thread where I mentioned the Zipshot. I finf it works well with my G12, but I wouldn't put anything heavier on. In use you can slightly splay the legs as they are flexy and get a stable base. I haven't used it in a breeze so can't comment there. I'll take the grip off my 50D
and try it with a 24-105L to see how it fares and post later.

Gave it a try, but the ungripped 50D/24-105L combo is way to heavy for the Zipshot. I stand by my estimate of nothing heavier than a G12.
