Tamron 150-600 F5-6.3 DI VC USD - Firmware update ?

Hi guys. About a year ago I purchased the above lens. Now whilst for the most part I love it and it's tack sharp, once in a while it will loose communication with the body (my D810 or D750 - not tried it on my new D7200), so much so that I will not focus at all, and all I can do is switch the camera off, and take the lens off and reseat it again. That usually does the trick until next time it happens.

It also has developed a habit of chattering very quickly when approaching focus target, like it's struggling to lock on. I don't remember it doing this when I purchased it ?

Has anyone had similar issues and had the Lens returned to Tamron (or the UK distributors) for repair and is there something that can be done about it (firmware upgrade for instance), or is this just a feature of this albeit, quite cheap lens ? Would be shame if there's nothing that can be done as optically it's superb.

Yes thats why i got rid of mine,it was back to Tamron twice both times they said there was no fault, first time they re calibrated the focus, second time they did that again and replaced the lens motor as a precaution,it made no difference.I dont know if it had the VC firmware upgrade or not but plenty have had that done and its made no difference.

Tamron say there is no problem with this lens,if they search forums and the web they will find there is,it can only mean they dont know how to sort it,shame because i would buy another straight away if i had confidence in it.

Well that's a little disappointing. Like I say it's not all the time, and to be honest I've not had the dead autofocus for a good while now, just the chattering.

I have 2 weeks left of my warranty (I forgot to register within 2 months of buying the lens, so Intro 2020 won't give me the 5 year warranty). and they have said today I can send it back to them for investigation, but I'm sorta loath to do it now I've heard this if it doesn't make any difference.

Indeed a sentence from the email I just received from their service department seems to corroborate what you said - ". Indeed there are updates available for this lens but I’m not too sure an update would be the cure to your problem"

Might not send it in now and just learn to live with it.

It may be worth sending back just to officially say you have this problem,if they cant fix it they cant really cut your warranty off after 12months for the problem.

I started to get the 'no communication' issue recently...... I sent my lens back to Intro and they updated the firmware and cleaned it up (very nicely).
On testing it now however, I get af chatter and the vc is almost useless...... I am about to send it back for them to have another go!

Never did send mine in, and for some strange reason, it's working perfectly now (no communication errors for months) and VC works like a charm - very weird.

Well I put mine in the post today, I'll update the thread when it comes back. The optical quality is really very good.... before I had the 'lost communication' issue, the af and vc were fine. The af judder after the firmware update made the lens unusable in af - it took over 5 secs to lock on a nice contrasty subject. I do hope they can sort it.

Well the lens arrived back today "no fault found" but they have replaced a switch, a focus brush, a flex and what sounds to be the focus motor as a precaution.......
Just tested it out.... focus now back to what it should be!
VC not as strong as I would like it, but at least it is working now!

I got no fault found both times, the second time they replaced the focus motor, quote,as a precaution
