Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC Di II vs Non VC

Have that chance to buy a Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC Di II for £160 which is very tempting. But having done a bit of research it doesn't seem to get as good reviews as the non VC one which is putting me off a bit :thumbsdown:

Does anyone have any 'real world' experience of them both? Is it just blown out of proportion or is there actually a real difference?

It will be to upgrade my 18-55mm kit. So will I be happy with the IQ/worth getting over my kit? :shrug:

Give it a whirl, if you don't get on with it i'd have thought you'd have no problem getting your money back at that price. :thumbs:
 
£160 is cheap for a vc -as Zarch says you would get your money back if you don't like it.
 
I've had both and could see no difference in IQ, even though it appears to be an internet urban myth that the VC isn't as good.

I did return the VC model simply because it was bigger and more expensive than the the non-VC.

It has a small dust speck inside the front element, which he says you can't see it till stopped down to f16. Have done a bit of research and it seems like its quite common on these lens and shouldn't affect the IQ and is more likely to be dust on the sensor....

Also doesn't come with a box either. Doesn't bother me, just means it might be slightly harder to sell on.

Don't worry about a not of dust, all lenses will get them especially zooms which have more movement.

I say go for it, as said above, the risk is minimal to zero...unless it's broke in which case stay away :)
 
As said at that price you can't loose, if anything you could make a bit extra. I've owned the non VC and it was fantastic, wish it would work on FF or I would have another in a heartbeat.
 
I haven't used them both, but for what it's worth I was extremely happy with the VC version. When hands are as shaky as mine, you don't really get the choice. ;)

Isn't noise a property of the sensor at high ISO? Obviously the wider aperture would allow use of lower ISO, but unless I'm very much mistaken, noise using any lenses at equal ISO would be the same... wouldn't it?

Sorry, I meant the noise of the motor itself rather than on the images.
