I just purchased a second hand one with 8 months warranty, mint condition for £222 delivered. Good deal or not?

Also the reason I went for VC is because I don't have steady hands, I'm a beginner and a lot of my shots are blurry with my 18-55 non IS. Especially when taking shots of cars from another car (rolling motorway shots).

Did I make the right choice and was this a good price?
 
Normally i would have said the vc won't help when taking pictures of moving cars but as its relatively static then it should. Especially when you consider the vibrations of the car. A higher shutter speed should also help.

Also what about the price? Good or bad considering it still has 8 months warranty and v.good condition?
 
For the price and condition, then yes. Some say the vc version isn't as sharp as the non vc but i think the stabilization should make up for it.
 
Thanks, quick question though. Are these lenses good for a group shot, because of the constant f2.8 won't the focus point be narrow and a lot of the shot will be out of focus with a shallow dof?
 
Stick to f5.6 and you should be fine.
 
£222 was a very good price most I have seen are going for £260-300 2nd hand.

The early vc where a bit soft but the more resent ones are sharp.

With VC on you need to wait about 1 sec after pressing prussing the shutter button half way for the vc to settle down. you will see the image move a little when the vc is activated, if you take a pic before it settels it will not be sharp.
