Hi all.
I think I know the answer to this, but can anyone confirm if the Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD
will work on a full frame body?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but doesn't hurt to check :)
 
On a 5D? Don't think it will work. If it was the D700 it would world but in crop mode (6 mp I think) otherwise it will vignette very badly. The lens doesn't cover the whole of the sensor.
 
It might fit but will vignette on your 1D even though its a 1.3x (double check the mirror will clear the end of the lens as well!).
 
It vignettes and looks like tunnel vision on a D700 if FX mode, but will work in crop mode (albeit with a smaller MP file size).
 
As others have said, it's a small sensor lens but it'll fit and as the lens does not extend into the body as far as an EF-S does you shouldn't hear the sound of breaking glass,
 
Is that not the same as using on a 5D and cropping in PP? I have a 17-35 Tamron lens and that does the same.

YES - It's an EF mount lens

ONLY EF-S lenses cannot be used.

just as an example yesterday i borrowed my friends Tamron 10-24mm which is a crop sensor lens to put on my 1d mk2 for taking pictures of some buildings in town. this is before processing showing the inside of the lens in the corners. wish i owned something wider than 35mm sometimes.
 
i'm not even sure that is at its widest...!!!


you should have a look at the samyang 8mm on a full frame, you see screws on the inside of the lens but that is rediculously wide, i miss my old job... darn jessops with pretty much nothing interesting to play with.
