Sorry I sure this question is will be nice quite a lot before.

I was hoping I could get a more up-to-date answer to this.

i think i will be going for one of these lenses I just wondered the age-old question which one is best ?

I here a lot this ones better no this ones better on web searches, but thought I would ask on here for real users opinions.

I have money burning a hole in my pocket and want to spend it before the Real boss nicks it ;-)

I think opinions are split. Some say the non-VC is sharper than the VC. I owned the non-VC and it was permanently attached to my old 350D. It never failed me, but I had to sell it to fund my 5D3. Not owning the VC version, I can't make a direct comparison, sorry!
 
I've had a go with both. There is barely anything between them, so obviously it just comes down to your personal needs. Do you need the IS? You can pick up the non-VC version for a lot less money than the VC.
