Have just seen the above lens for £150 brand new and was wondering if its going to be much better than the canon 18-55 isII on my 60d as a general walkabout lens?
Tamron 18-200mm aspherical Xr Di II for walkabouts.

Between 55 and 200 it will offer better performance.
Between 18-55 it won't offer the same sharpness or IQ as the 18-55IS.

Or should I spend an extra £20 and get a second hand sigma DC 18-50mm 2.8 ex.

The kit lens of your 60D is actually quite good, I would suggest you learn how to get the best from it. It is a major step up from its predecessors.
I would recommend you keep it and buy the canon nifty 250mm to complement it, it shoots well above its station can be got for just over £100 new saving you money. Both would outperform the lens you are currently looking at. If you want substantially better then save up for some L glass
