Just wondering if anyone has anything good to say about a Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD. What's the IQ like at both ends and how quick is the AF.
I have a Sigma 18-125mm f3.8-5.6 and a Canon EFS 55-250mm IS f4-5.6. The Sigma is quite good at the bottom end but a bit soft at the top end and the Canon is nice and sharp throughout but if I can get 1 doing the job of 2 it may be worth it.
Cant think of a better place to ask for some unbiased opinion.

go into a shop and try one they are expensive considering the tacky poor build quality
I have one and wouldn't have bothered had I physically tried one in a shop
iq is ok I use it as a general walk about lens
for best pics I use my efs 17-55 f2.8
my advice buy one of these and keep the efs 55-250 and forget the tampon 18-270
you could probably get a mint used canon efs 17-55 f2.8 used for the same price as the tampon is new

There is always a compromise with an "all in one lens". I can see the attraction of a lens like this, but personally I wouldn't buy one. I prefer to have a better quality lens and a shorter focal range, with the kit 18-55 lens and the 55-250 lens you have most areas covered.

I would be looking to upgrade these lenses individually, eg the 17-55 mentioned above.

I have one and regret buying it, It's not as sharp as my 55-250

It's quick enough but I find it hard to get sharp images, not so bad if you can keep the shutter speed up.

Unfortunately the 17-55 f2.8 is out of my price range. Even the second hand ones go for 600 plus. Think I might have to settle for an 18-55 mk2 to go with my 55-200. I'm not too worried about distance as I mainly use the 100-400 L, but the mrs was complaining a bit cos the 18-125 sigma didnt get her squirrel pics close enough or sharp enough. Thanks for the advice guys, think I'll stay with the 55-250 for now. Now if I can just find a new owner for my sigma I'll be a happy man.
