Just looking at these after stumbling across a youtube review and wondering if they are actually any good. Could you share your experience?

Apologies, the one I was looking for was Phil's review. I would say the VC version is worth the extra, because the focus on the non VC version is quite a bit slower
 
I have the non VC one in Pentax K mount. The AF speed depends on the camera body you're going to be using it with. Nikon and Canon mount versions are known to be slow focusing, and this could well be a deal breaker for you. However, the AF with my Pentax K3 is quick and accurate, because it uses a much beefier screw drive motor from the actual camera body. The trade off is that focus is a bit noisier. That aside, optically the version I have is absolutely superb.
 
Awesome lens. F2.8 is sharp but when you step down a bit it makes your eyes bleed it is that sharp. Needed a bit of fine tuning on my Nikon but that is not a problem. AF speed is pretty good and Tamron VC is rock solid.

I've had a 70-200VC for about 18 months now and haven't used it that much. It is a good lens though, focus is fast and the VC is very effective. When testing it I successfully used mine (Canon mount) with a Kenko dgx pro 300 1.4x and 2x TC.

The photo's linked here were taken with it, 2 of them wide open at f2.8, 200mm. Photo 1, photo 2, photo 3.
