Tamron 24-70 F2.8 with Image stabilisation

This could be 'big' if done properly (cough 17-50mm VC cough). Image stabilisation can be really valuable. They are also using a proper AF motor this time.

It will be interesting to see MTF charts and some samples. I take it this won't happen soon, as they have only 'announced development'.

Another important change is 82mm filter thread, so this would seem like 77mm is getting out of fashion.

Pre-emptive strike in case Canon launch the 24-70 II IMHO.

Very true, which is also more or less true for many other cheap and expensive lenses, some with the red ring. There ARE good and bad copies, or more precisely lens and camera combinations (taking into account mount and sensor misalignments).

Tamron don't have another 24-70 in their line up.

If you mean the 28-75 f2.8 then it's a cracking lens. VERY Small and light, sharp and contrasty. Just not so good in lower light than the canon 24-70.
