Tamron 24-70 f2.8 with VC

Hi folks. I'm wondering what the consensus is about the above lens. Is this substitute for Canon or Nikon offerings good enough for wedding work? I'm pretty convinced that the IQ is good enough and even the bokeh seems adequate to me though I know many don't like it.


The thing I'm wondering about is whether the AF is up to speed. I had a Tamron 28-75 years ago and although a nice lens on my 20D and 5D mk1 cameras, the AF was not really good and it hunted a lot. The new lens seems better but I'm not sure it's fast enough to handle a wedding.

Anyone used one or have an informed opinion?

good for video, IQ is good too, but not sure its on par with the canon / nikons for stills. I picked up the Nikon 24-70 2nd hand in mint condition for the same price as the Tamron new yesterday. Glad i did as it completes my trinity. if i had got the Tamron it would have been the odd one out :D

Thanks for the comment, Tizer. I know what you mean about the brand thing ;)

From what I've seen the Tamron is as good as the Canon 24-70 mk1 but the AF is the thing I worry about given my past experience
 
I used one before i could afford the Nikon 24-70mm,IQ wasn't to bad, but not as fast focusing as my Nikon and the VC was a bit clunky :)
 
Hi simonblue did the AF pose a problem for you?

I believe the Nikon 24-70 is superior to the Canon mk1 version in just about every way. The Canon mk 1 doesn't seem that great and I'm wondering if the Tamron might not be the better bet all round. It has VC which I can't help feeling even if not perfect, would help with IQ a fair bit.

The images I've seen from this lens look excellent.
