Tamron 28-75 bim vs non bim?

Anyone actually tested both versions? I have now found a couple of non bim versions for sale and some reviews have it as faster and sharper.

I have only ever used the bim version and found it to be a great lens for weddings, general purpose and indoor action. In actual fact it seemed pretty snappy indoors so reviews of focus hunting confused me a bit!

But, maybe because I have never used the non bim version I can't compare it!

I could always try both I guess.

So anyone with experiance of the non bim version or both versions please let me know your thoughts.
 
I have heard the reports of the non BIM being quicker, but I have had two with BIM on my then D7000's and never found the AF to be slow. Also, I may have been lucky, but I never had problem with IQ with either lens.
 
Forgot to add. Gary's advice is correct.

Using mine less now due to having 35/85 primes but it's such good value that I wouldn't let it go!!

If you're using a d3xxx or d5xxx the version to gett is the bim version.

I had both in my d800. Focus was much better, speed and less hunting, on the non bim version.

A lot of my shots have been with the 28-75. It's a cracker for the price but finding a non bim one is tricky!
 
I have found the non bim online. Well it has a picture of the non bim and says its AFD so fingers crossed it is.

Well done. What I meant to say, was it's tricky finding a good copy of the non bim!!

Out of interest where did you find the non BIM one?

Jessops have it. Although I'm not convinced it will be non BIM! I was just about to pull the trigger on my friends brand new BIM version but now spent my money on primes lol.

I used to have the BIM version on my D600 so can't compare to non BIM. Although I'm not sure why people seem to have so much trouble with low light focussing as never found it an issue!

I had the non-bim and it was good but I was still missing something, I found that something when I got the Nikon 24-70AFS. I wished I saved my money getting a non-bim and went straight to the Nikon.
 
Not sure what your budget is, but also have a look at the new Tamron 24-70 2.8 vc. I have just got one, it's an excellent lens. Sharper then the Nikon 24-70 I've been hiring, even at 2.8. Well worth a look. The extra 4mm at the wide end would make a big difference for me too.
 
After being out with the camera today I have decided I really miss having a walk about zoom so back on the hunt for a decent copy of the lens!
