Tamron 70-200 2.8 same quality as the 24-70?

I recently got a Tamron 24-70 VC and it's pretty much blown me away in terms of IQ.

Does anyone know if the 70-200 2.8 VC is as good? I hadn't thought about a zoom like that before but if they're as good as the 24-70 is I'd be sorely tempted to sell my 85 1.8 and put the money towards one. As much as I love primes you can't deny the usefulness of a zoom.
 
Its good greg, i bought one but sold it on and bought the Nikon VRII, the Tamron cant take TC's but is definatly worth its money, probably about 90% as good as the Nikon but not having the ability to use TC's meant it was totally useless for me.

What TC's do you use as I found the TC20e-III pretty unusable on the 70-200 VRii?
 
Nikon 1.4x and 1.7x are superb as is the Kenko 1.4x, i owned a 2x MKIII and while it was decent on my 400mm it wasn't so good on the 70-200mm

I have a 70-200vc its a very good lens, nearly as good as the Nikon Vr2 although a little softer wide open between 180-200mm, well my copy is anyway.

Wouldn't give up an 85 for it though.

I haven't really found that to be the case but everyone is different. At times a 70-200 can be handy but we could easily get away without it.

As much as I love primes, I do find zooms easier. To be fair iI'm fairly inexperienced with regards to weddings ( although I know enough to be shooting them before anyone jumps on that!) so a zoom will provide me more of a safety net, at least while I'm developing my style/skills.

Neither are we this is our first year doing weddings. There is no right or wrong answer if your more comfortable with the zooms then that is your best option. The Tamron VC is very good value for money and you can always add another 85 later on down the line if you decide you miss it.

It's definitely something I'd consider down the line, but for the moment I need to look at what makes me more versatile and what I find easier to work with. If I could afford to keep the 85 and buy a 70-200 then I would, but unfortunately I cant!
