I have been using the tamron 24 70 2.8 on a d7000 and a Nikon 55-300 dx mostly portraits and fashion style. The 24 70 is great and I like the pov from the 55-300 at the long end , I am looking to upgrade on the 55 200. The tamron is stretching the budget a bit, the 55-300 good for the price but I lose the shallow dof. I am going for fx lenses in case I go ff later .
Your thoughts and any suggestions of other possibilities would be helpful, second hand is ok up to around £500.

You wont get the newer Tamron VC 70-200mm for anywhere hear £500, you will get the older non VC model though, the Nikon 70-300mm VR is a cracking lens for the money but is a full 2 stops slower then the Tamron

Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 SP di VC USD gray import about £700 so if I go s/h would like to save a bit compared to that, the 2stops dof is the only thing I have against the 70-300

its an £1100 lens in the UK, anyone who is selling a grey market version used likely wont even tell anyone its grey market and sell it on used for £8-900

Pretty much aware of all that, I posted on the off chance someone knew of a hidden gem from the older Nikon ect about the same range say 60 to 80mm at the short end and 180 plus at the long end

Thank you for the help, the 80-200 maybe the one I will have a look about for a good s/h one

I've been looking at the same lenses...but also the sigma 70_200 f/2.8 apo ex dg mark 2.
Infact just bought a mint one off eBay for 435 quid. IQ is superb and it feels extremely well built compared with my Nikon 70-300vr .
Gets my vote anyway!
