Tamron 70-300 too soft

I have a Tamron 70 - 300 bought a month ago, good lens however i find that the images are coming out a bit too soft, not a sharp as i would like.

my question is this, does this lens have a "sweet spot" with the aperture setting to maintain foreground sharpness and background blur

(hope i've worded this question right...... goes to find the flame proof suit :exit: ) :D
 
common ! how much did you pay for it ? 100quid ? you get what you pay for. but maybe you have a bad copy. i would suggest to try other ones on you camera. p.s. I paid 65 and will get it tmrw, missed the postman today :|

I paid about £150 for this lens iirc :) you're probably right and I may have received a bad copy :| as my other lenses are ok

out of interest where did you get one for £65? :)
 
I dont think there is such a thing as a sharp copy of these and similar lenses. I find it incredible you paid £150 for one of these when you could have got the Nikon 70-300G or 70-300D for around £70 - £130 used respectively. Both the nikons are far superior although not the greatest.
The D version is a little better than the G

here ! but it's sony/minolta fit. haven't seen such a bargain in Nikon thread.
 
Sorry to jump the thread but I'm looking at buying the same lens the "Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di LD Macro - Nikon Fit" for my mother, can I just check that it will AF no a D40 ???

yes it will :) it has the AF servo motor built into the lens
 
i'm going to give this lens another try in case it's just me being a numpty and not setting the camera properly

i'll post back with an update :)

But I fixed it for you ;)
 
before you diss the lens have you tried a proper test, preferably on a tripod? try this on different apertures and you should be able to find the "sweetest" spot!

Hand held at 300mm you will need at least a 500th to get a sharp picture and even then, a 1000th would be better....

ahh some numbers, cheers, i'll give this a go :thumbs:

I always use this lens on a tripod FTW :)

well after some testing, i found three things

1. setting the shutter speed to a minimum of 500th worked well (this is at any F/ stop value) :)

2. beefing up the iso helped qute a bit

3. It's not the lens it's me being a numpty not setting the camera properly :bonk:

double check it from the place you're buying it. I think they also had nonmotor versions, but older. just ask the sellers ! ;)
