Tamron 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 Di LD and Canon 5D

Hi,

Am thinking of getting the Tamron 70-300 f4.0-5.6 Di LD to use with my 5D, does anyone have any experience with this combo ? My main concern is vignetting, with a canon lens this can be easily corrected in DPP, also its performance at the long end.

Do you mean the SP70-300 Di VC? or perhaps the cheaper 70-300 Di LD ? as tamron don't make a 75-300mm.

Both of the tamron lenses I've mentioned have no known limitations on full frame..the sp VC model is a cracking lens, the VC is the best I've encountered and I've been able to hand hold shots as low as 1/30th of a second with no visible image degradation.

Yeh meant the 70-300, but the LD not the newer VC version (though if i had the money i'd go for the VC version . I've read good reviews on the LD version, but all using cropped sensors, so wanted to know if anyone had used it in a full frame sensor ?

The Di LD is no slouch either, its still pretty sharp, even at 300mm, though its best at around F9, the Macro function on it is great at 1:2, I've kept mine since upgrading to the VC version as they've been going for silly money and its still good for the macro side of things.

Sadly I don't have a 5D but the reviews I've read from full frame owners have generally been positive, they have been impressed with the lens for the money and none have even mentioned vignetting.

Thanks for you advice Ian, I went for the Di LD version, and so far happy with it, though not sure if i'm going to regret not having the IS. Am used to the Canon 55-250 IS, on my 40D ! shame I can't use it on my 5D :-(.
