Tamron/7D Lens Error - contact cleaning?

Hi

Started getting an '01 Error' on my 7D while on holiday, with my Tamron 17-50. A message appears asking to clean the contacts after each shot... what's the best way to go about this? Should I simply try a cloth or use a cleaning fluid too? It still functions and the pics seem fine, but it only takes one pic and the error message appears, so can't rapid shoot.

I did manage to clear it for a while, with a wipe and removing the battery for a while, but it came back later in the day. I just wanted to give the contacts a proper clean/check before I need to see if the problem requires professional help! (Not getting the error with my Canon 50mm, so pretty sure lens is the issue).

Thanks!

Ben

Does the memory card light come on as if the camera is writing to it but then stay on indefinitely?

If so it's the same issue I had with my 7D (can't remember the error number but know the recommended 1st thing to try was cleaning contacts)... I had to send it back to Canon who replaced the main circuit board.

Nope, just says "Err 01 - Communications between the camera and the lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts."

The lens functions okay, and pics seem fine, but get the message every shot. My 50mm isn't triggering the same error, so don't think the 7D is at fault.
