Tamron 90mm AF question, please help

Hey all
Ive had my Tamron 90mm SP AF F/2.8 DI lens for around 2 years now and the auto focus has never worked, I used it with my D60 first then upgraded to D90 and it still has not worked even on the D90, is this normal ? I seem to remember posting on forums when I first got the lens and people saying that it was normal for that lens but now Im reading that the same lens has worked on peoples D90's ?? I have this lens up for sale on ebay so want to make sure first before selling it to someone who is relying on auto focus.

It should work fine on the D90 as the D90 has a focus motor. If its not, then there is a fault.
Have you double checked the clutch thing is in the right position. Try pulling and pushing it a few times to make sure its seated properly.
I do remember reading somewhere about some lenses suffering from a stripped clutch.

What bit is the clutch ?
 
The big ring that you pull back and foward. I think the focus ring is part of the same bit. Its says MF and AF on the lens barrel, you pull/push the clutch to the relevent mark.
 
The bit you turn to focus should slide backwards and forwards as well.

Pull back towards the camera for manual focus (should be a blue line visible towards the front) and push forward away from the camera for autofocus (should be a white AF mark made visible and the focus ring will just freely rotate.
 
Cheers lads, I was just having a mess around with it pulling back and forward a few times and all of a sudden after all this time its started working, yaaay. although it seems to work one minute then I'll put it back in manual then back to auto and it wont work until you push and pull a few more times then works again, bloody thing.
P.s I do realise how filthy the start of this post sounds :)
 
This is why I sold mine. That stupid clutch was too much hassle. Shame as the rest of the lens is very good.

Yeah I love the lens but this has put me off a bit, Im only selling because I need the money but will replace it later. Do you think I should go for the same lens or maybe a different macro one ? Its a shame because its a great lens.
