Hi All,

At the risk of sounding like a thicky - I saw this today in LCE and may go and buy it tomorrow:

My question is - is this the Tamron 90mm macro lens that people think is good? I'm worried I am missing something and this is a different (i.e. not as good) version. It would be just my luck to buy the wrong thing... :bonk:

I think this is the version people have praise for. I recently got rid of mine because I didn't use it- the lens itself was fantastic. If you want to go into macro I don't think you'll go wrong with this- by the way also a brilliant portrait lens. Rob

Thanks Rob - I will give it a closer look tomorrow and maybe splash some cash :)

My problem is I don't really know what I'm talking about so even if I get my hands on it to give it the once over I'm a bit worried I'll be buying something duff without knowing it.

Tamron have a good reputation in regards to QC. I think you'll find for macro ( if that's your reason to buy it?) it will do the job. You need to be sure what you want the lens for?. Rob

Yep - I'm looking for a dedicated macro lens. I had it narrowed down to the Tamron 90mm or Sigma 105mm - and just happened to see this one SH today.

I reckon your on a winner there then- go for it. Rob

You could spend less than half the amount and go for the older manually focused Tamron Adaptall-2 SP ƒ/2.5 90mm macro.

Looks like the older screw drive version, which will me manual focus on a D60. If you wanted to use it as a general/ portrait lens you'd be better with the new type with in built motor - [a fair bit more expensive though] --> Not as much as I thought, see post below.

Im not sure but that picture doesnt seem to resemble the 90mm i know of.

WEX are doing the new one with motor for £335, Mifsuds £329. These prices are for brand new ones.

All Tamron 90mm macro lenses are good with each new generation being batter than the last one, so yes this will be a good lens.
LCE Reading are also a very good, award wining, retailer as well so you should have no problems
I’d say go for it.
