Hi there, im thinking of purchasing the Tamron 90mm macro Di lens for my D5000, but before i hit the buy it now, im unsure it WILL auto focus on my body without the motor.

I'm thinking not.

However if its macro you are using it for, most of the time you will be using manual so shouldn't matter too much. Also have a look for some tubes, should enhance your macro shots and manual cheap ones are around 5-10ukp :)

Haven't used the lens though I have read its 1:1 ratio and crisp


Oh... if your local camera store has one, take your camera in and something to test it on. They wont mind if you say you are really considering buying it... can always walk away :)

IIRC there are two versions, one with inbuilt focus motor, one without. The original has an aperture ring and no focus motor, the later version has no aperture ring and a focus motor, and I can confirm it does focus on my D40.

Pretty sure the model of the motor version is the 272E, and some product codes will say "NIK" or "MOTOR" to indicate the presense of the motor.
 
If it is a new one it should say "built in motor on the box". I have one and have just checked the box. I think that if you look at the spec on whichever website you are buying from they should state built in motor - if you are not sure then email the shop and clarify :thumbs:

You won't be disapointed though as it is a cracking lens.

PS you won't use the AF much anyway for macro.
