Tamron 90mm macro (non-Di)

Has anyone had any experience with this lens? My poor web searching skills makes it hard to find reviews out there!

I can get one for about £100 and would like to know if it's worth the 50 miles drive to purchase it. Obviously I can try it out when I get there, but should I pollute the atmosphere with that much CO2?

An abolute belter. If it was any sharper you would cut yourself.

I've still got mine even though I have a Sigma 180mm and Nikon 105mm Macros, (just couldn't bear to part with it).

Only critisims.

1) Focusing isn't exactly what you would call quick or quiet (especially at the macro end, so best use the MF for that).

2) The front of the lens extends quite a bit at macro focussing distances as it's not an IF lens (but then most non IF lenses do the same).

3) A bit plasticky - but still well built.

4) For Nikon, it doesn't have a focus motor so only AF's with the higher end bodies (D90 upwards). Not sure about Canon ?

As I said, as far as optical quality goes, it's as good as my others, and at the FL of 90mm also makes an ideal portrait lens.
