Yes
I'm looking for a new macro lens for my new sony, but i cant decide on which one. I've had a sigma 105mm on my old a100, but just after buying it i heard about afew problems regarding the gears and sony camera's (stripping). My old sigma started playing up and started to sound alittle strange before i sold it, which is putting me off buying another. Is this problem just with the 105mm or is it sigmas on sony bodies full stop???

I'm now looking at the tamron AND the sigma 90mm but i'm unsure if i'd have the same problems with the sigma 90 that i had with the 105???

Tamron :D
seriously though, I saw a review of all the macro lenses between 90mm and 105mm in a magazine and Tamron emerged as the sharpest and one of the best IQs. It's not expensive either.

Oscar ;)

I've had alook at afew sites and the sony version of the tamron still seems quite alot more expensive than the canon/nikon version.

What about the Tokina 100mm??

I have it and love it. Built like a tank.

Not had any experience with tokina? Where did you do get yours from and roughly what do they normally cost compared to the tamron/sigma?

Yeah they do a 90mm 2.8. Just read that its a 1:2 and an adapter has to be used to achieve 1:1 ratio

I have a Sigma 90mm and its a super lens. I think it must be about 25 years old, but optically it's A1.

I also have the Tokina 100mm mentioned in this thread its probably my favourite 100mm-ish macro lens - just in front of the Tamron 90mm - superb bokeh  If you google "Bokina" - well the 100mm AT-X has some of that older lens genetics I think.

Is it correct that you have to use a seperate adapter for the sigma 90mm?

I've had a quick look over the net and i've only came across the tokina 100mm for either the canon or nikon. Cant find it for the sony????

I don't think the Sigma 90mm goes to 1:1, not sure about an adaptor too be honest. Very nice lens anyhow.

If you shoot Sony, then get the Tamron 90mm as Tokina only do Canon / Nikon and Pentax stuff.

Ah right. That'll be the reason why i cant find it for the sony, lol.

As for the sigma 90mm only being a 1:1 with an aditional adapter, i'm going on what it says on 'dyxum'.

I'm starting to sway towards the tamron.

the nikon 105mm VR macro lens is almost £600 at warehouse express, while the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens is £450. The Tamron, however is £334 at warehouse express. I think the Tamron would be the best option.

Don't know the Sigma, but the Tamron 90 has a great reputation (on Nikons).

Yeah i thinks its going to be the tamron. Jessops have got the tamron in at £349 for the sony.

Never used warehouse express, i normally use my local jessops. Have you had any experience with warehouse express?

I bought a tamron 90 Macro from Onestop Digital a few weeks ago for £231 inc p&p.
Great lens and a great company to deal with. Delivered in 3 days

WOW, thats abit of a price difference! Did you have yours sent 'standard delivery' or pay the extra £10 for FedEX??

No idea about the sigma, but i am currently using the 90mm tamron and it is EXCELLENT

Stay away from stigma, get the Tamron.

Good choice. I've got the Tamron 90mm on a D80 and it produces some truly spectacularly clear images e.g. :
