What do you think about this lens?

It seems a good walkabout lens and I am thinking about purchasing it. I would like to ask someone who uses this lens about it. Could you tell me how sharp is this lens?

What are the macro capabilities?

How fast is the autofocus?

Any comments about the lens?

Thanks for help

Will try to give an honest appraisal even though i currently have mine for sale in the classifieds

Macro focusing distance is about 45cms, but the lens does extend if zoomed out, so allow for that.

AF speed is actually quite good given it doesn't have its own motor and not too noisy either

Sharpness is a bit subjective, but it does need stopping down a bit to get a decent result anything past about about 200mm, not going to be as good as a dedicated longer zoom or wide angle though.
If you just want normal size prints it will be fine, but don't expect L lens quality and minute detail at an A3 size

Bit of a sales pitch, but if you want to try one out, give mine a go and if its not for you get your money back on Ebay or here

These are a compromise type lens and great for travel being light, but well built. I think its one of the best all in one zooms at a not silly price and much better than a lot of the sub 200 quid ones, there again it should be with a rrp over £300

I bought mine about 5 years ago & although I've invested in sharper/faster glass I've still got it as it's an ideal walkabout lens.

A couple of examples when used on my old 300D :)
