Hi all,

Since my wanted thread for a 1.4 TC has made me rethink what I want lens wise I have been looking at 70-300 ones and saw that tamron are alot cheaper than sigma and nikor ones.

I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me

A) is tamron any good?
B) are the cheap for a reason ie glass abit rubbish etc?
C) is it worth buying tamron or should I spend a few more £ and get the sigma equivalent?
D) if I got a 70-300 should I sell my 55-200?

I've read reviews on amazon and Argos etc but they seem mixed, I have a Nikon d3100 body too.

There are 2 Tamron 70-300s & they are both probably the best value ~70-300 lenses at the prices that they typically sell at new (£100-120 & £300-350).
A Nikon 70-300 VR would probably hold it's value better but it's dearer to start with.
What's your budget?
 
I have it for my Nikkon - it's my most used lens (have 18-55 55-200 and dedicated macro). The 55-200 is almost redundant and I'm thinking of selling it on.
I picked mine up for £70 delivered from here.
 
Generally you get what you pay for and Nikon lenses for Nikon cameras are usually better quality.
However, I have used Sigma and Tamron and they are very good quality, but, some lenses they make are just not up to scratch and they can both have quality control issues.

Before I buy a lens, I always look on review sites and find the best one is HERE ( best means I agree with their findings on any lenses that I have bought following their recommendations.)

Have a look at their reviews for the lens you are thinking about, apparently it scores rather evenly against the Nikon equivalent.
