Can anyone sdvise please.
I want to get a 70-300 used Tamron or Sigma lens for my D3100 due to budget restraint. I am not certain which ones have the internal AF motor.
I think with Tamron the A005 does and the AF70 does. I think thr A17 does not.
Sigma I believe the DG macro does and the DG APO does not.
I would be grateful for your advise, thanks.
 
I know for certain that the DG Macro does (used to have one)... and considering the APO version is more expensive I think it would also.

Can't help on the Tamron though I'm afraid!

AFAIK only sigma lenses designated HSM -HYPERSONIC MOTOR can be used on Nikon cameras which do not have an in built focus motor.

Its not quite that simple.

All Nikon fit Sigma lenses designated HSM have focus motors, but some like the 70-300 DG have focus motors but not the hypersonic type, to keep cost down.

So HSM is not the only indicator that a Sigma lens has a focus motor. In the case of Canon fit Sigma lenses, all lenses have to have a focus motor but not all are designated HSM.

Correct. My 70-300mm DG Marco (Nikon fit) had a focus motor, but it was LOUD and SLOW.. i.e. not a HSM.
