Im looking at getting the Tamron 17-50mm Non VC and DigitalRev is easily the cheapest and dont have a problem ordering from them as they seem to get good feedback everywhere.

But my concern is with the warranty, i know canon lenses are covered by an international warranty but was wondring if Tamron do the same?

I bought a Tamron lens in Hong Kong a couple of years back, I asked the shop to swap the warranty card for an international warranty card which they did, I never had issues with the lens so not sure if it made any difference.

I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty with Tamron. At the worst you will only have to send it back to D R and they will sort out the repairs. I have a couple of Sigma lenses bought from Panamoz that have 3 year warranties and IF they go wrong Panamoz sort it all out.

Thanks, it's always a concern though

Really not sure what to do as its about 230 on digitalrev but I can get 8% off through work at Jessops but have to order the vouchers 1st plus topcashback back which will in total bring the price down to 260 buts it's a lot of messing!

And still £30 more bottom line after all the faffing...

8% employee discounts a sham, especially at Jessop prices!

I don't work for Jessops but my employer (actually the Sports & Social Club) has a discount arrangement at Jessops on 'hardware'... This could be what OP has too?

Yeah we have a intranet site at work which we can access and basically gives discount on vouchers so I would buy £300 worth of vouchers but get charged £276. I wait for them to be delivered an then take them in store to buy what I wanted.

Digitalrev will refund this though if it happens won't they like all the others.

Not according to their T&C's:

When ordering goods from DigitalRev Limited, overseas deliveries may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once the package reaches the specified destination. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you, unless an Import Handling Charge is included in the price of the goods.

No problem - I think One Stop Digital (another HK reseller) promise to refund any import duty but they are a bit dearer than DR

AFAIK Canon only do International warranty on their L series stuff, although I understand Kerso (on here) who sources his stuff from the USA has a good reputation for getting everything covered under a UK warranty. I'd be doubtfull if you got a grey import of getting Canon UK (or anyone else) to fix it for free.
It used to be the case that camera manufacturers specifically excluded grey imports, so unless European Law has kicked that into touch I would be suspicious of getting any grey import sorted by the official UK importer/Agent.
Might be worth asking either Canon or anyone who repairs their stuff under warranty.

Matt

Heard good things about HDEW. Grey imports yes, but already in the country so no VAT/duty worries.
I plan on using them for my next lenses as it's used money but new items. Okay the warranty is 3rd party but that's more than I'd get used.

http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/tamron-af-17-50mm-f28-xr-di-ii-ld-canon-756-p.asp (I think that's the lens your after, but double check.) £30 more then digital rev so same as the Jessops option but no faffing. However Jessops gives a UK warranty.

Well my original plan was to get it from jacobs as its £279 there minus some topcashback brings it down to £270.55 but typically theyre now out of stock and advise approx 14-21 days.

I know its prob a faff but order the vouchers off work and go through jessops it ends up a good price and i have it from a bricks and mortar shop!

Might be worth seeing if Jessops would match Jacobs price (and then pull your wad of vouchers out to pay for it :))

Well its not as bad, the thing i was worried about was in the time i wait for the vouchers the price goes up at jessops but as the vouchers are ordered over the web they covered by the distance selling act so can return them if that happens.

Only problem is my old lens which im getting a refund from amazon for was paid for on my credit card so the money is going back on that and this company charge 1.25% to use a credit card but hey ho you cant have everything.

all i need to do now is wait for the vouchers and reserve one via top cashback to get another 4.04% back then pop in and pay!

May also be worth considering Warehouse Express - UK based and also discounted via Topcashback. Also TCB are doing a voucher for WE for free next day del for items over £100.

Tamron will not honour non-UK purchases, they are one of the most vehement anti-grey market manufacturers, and have successfully sued vendors (and even gone as far as requesting a list of buyers so they can blacklist them for warranty attempts).

If you want a warranty on a tamron lens, do not buy grey market.

And the warranty you do get is pretty good, a 5 year warranty now, although they will only do warranty calibrations against a designated model camera that is specified when you register the warranty.
