Hi guys, I've had my old 18-270 for a couple of years. I think I bought it for a trip back in 2012. It's now not playing happy focus.

Using today on focus target @ 1/300s (ish) smallest f & iso100 it wouldn't focus at all in live mode not even hunt just a micro step forward on each shutter half pressure. In normal mode a little more luck but still soft and only focusing below about 100mm. Target was 1.5m away.

I'm taking it to intro2000 tomorrow.

Anyone had any dealings with Tamron?
Any chance of free or at least cheap repair?

It should be registered to me but I can't remember. Its definitely a UK model. It will be interesting to see if grey is worth the savings!
 
Do you have the receipt and was it covered for a 5 year warranty ?

And I presume there is no signs of damage to the lens - If so, I can't see you'd have any problems having it repaired.

Hope you do get sorted out - could be worth updating this thread with your experience to help others...
 
No receipt anymore but I can probably find proof of purchase (as defined by law, ie bank statement). I think it was only the 1 year warranty I got back then.

I'd take your proof of purchase with you and see what they say ...

Is there no paper work with the lens, indicating what the warranty is ?
 
No, I sent the card off. I would hope they can check the serial but it didn't sound hopeful on the phone. I've looked and 5yrs warranties didn't start until 2013 I think.

For reference, I can get a grey for £230 from HK via friend inc delivery or £320 (best camerabuster price) from the UK. That's a chunk of money!

Looks like £230 for an upgrade to B008 and saving £10 is the way forward.
I think that's proof enough to buy grey from one maker at least
 
Have you seen the wording on the International Warranty card?
I need to check but it looks like the honour your 'local' warranty but internationally.
Perhaps the 16-300 will be out soon!!

To me the lens is dead, so I will be taking it apart :)
 
Now that is a deal maker - £40 for 5yr warranty & uv filter is worth it

Agree with this, sell it for spares and recoup some money towards your new purchase...
 
Depends on where you are selling it - if on here, then set a reasonable price, but be open to offers ? If on a certain auction site, set a low start price and watch it go from there...(also have a look on sold items there and see if any previously have been sold for spares and for how much). At the end of the day, any money you get is a discount of a replacement...:)
