target shots

I don't set myself any particular goals but every time I go out with the camera is think about what I want to achieve.

I rarely take a picture which I am happy with but it makes me think about what I have done wrong and what I need to change.

I've never tried it for a long period of time like a year but I do go out to take specific types of shot maybe one day horses another day lakes etc.

Not so much targets but things I would like to shoot. My first aim was a f1 car which I have ticked off. But I haven't set targets because some of them aren't possible round here.

Always set targets that are achievable but stretch you. Setting targets to easy means you accomplish very little, get bored, and give up. Setting unachievable targets also mean you get bored and give up....

So, if you're into say landscape, even if you live in a City, you can target yourself with "a decent shot of this building and that building" for instance.

And yes, I do have a list of shots or places I want to visit to take photo's. This year I'm going to France in June, and I want to get a shot of a field of sunflowers, some shots of the City of Tours, and images of a vineyard.

always set my self a task,

say today im going to shot architecture
however if while walking around the town or what ever i see something i think may be a good photograph id shot it straight away

I do not set myself targets as such but every time I go out I go with a specific theme in mind wether it be macro the hill climbe or BIF etc etc,

I am going to the Laguna Seca race way this year for the moto GP so that is my only real target to get a great shot of Rossie going down th cork screw or if not a wall mounting shot i can get blown up for my wall, No preasure there then.

Sometimes. Most times I just go out to photograph wild life. But now and again I hear about a particular subject and go out looking for it ie Bald Eagle nest in such and such area then I will go look for it. However I am never satisfied with what I have got so I may revisit a subject/area over and over again to see if I can do better

I don't set targets as such Mark, But what I do aim to do is not to make the silly mistakes and never repeat the big ones !

Such as leaving the file size on small, ISO's at night settings, forgetting extra batteries or radio triggers etc etc

I think thats a very good point, to try avoid you mistakes.

forgetting extra batteries or especially memory cards (ive seen lots of people forgetting their CF's or SD's) i think is the worst thing can happen. Because even if you forget extra batteries but have a charger, there is always a chance that you'll find your self a spot to charge it.

I set myself targets for a year, for example in 2009 it was to get an image published in Autorsport, last year was Motorsport News and this year was to get accepted to Alamy.

I also have a list of things I want to shoot, as I see something I make a note of it on my phone and revisit the list when I have some time to shoot.
