Hi,

Has anybody tried to use Tarpaulin sheet for backdrop background?

Is it as good as vinyl? worse?
Pros (apart it's easy to clean)? cons?

And if you could share shots taken with it that would be great.

What colour- tarps are usually green/blue/brown?
What material - canvas, plastic?
WHat size?

Give us a bit more pls....
 
I read a post on another forum from someone who use white plastic tarpaulin, same material as curtain
Sides of truck.
What people think about that?

Lots use it, its great but because its now become popular its also become expensive, Tony Beal in Scotland had become the norm for photographers to buy from but they have cottoned on to this and prices have now become expensive compared to other sources, White Vinyl is great for backdrop, easy to clean and pound for pound cheaper than seamless paper, im sure others will tell you different but that seems to be the general consensus
 
I think they work ok ..... (only limited use I admit), I have white (5m x 2m ) ... black, red, purple and white all 2m x 2.5m ..... all nice and cheap from my local tarp manufacturer (they think I am odd !!! ) ... best thing to do is try some, a few early trial test shots on coloured here ..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidlaws2009/sets/72157625815628813/ ...

Not tarpaulin, but I once did a glamour shoot for a magazine using a black bin liner as a backdrop.

Worked really well - the creases make for an unusual background.

For events, we use either a white or a black vinyl. Not that cheap to buy, but pretty much indestructable so good value.
