No, sadly i'm not having a tramp stamp done i'm afraid.... :p

However, in two weeks we will be in Edinburgh and at the Military Tattoo. The only lenses i intend
taking in with me are my Nikon AF-S DX VR 55-200 mm F4.0-F5.6 & my Nikon 18-105mm VR F/3.5-5.6.

We're five rows back, i'm obviously going to have to try and shoot from where i'm sat, i wouldnt
imagine the on-camera flash will be much use at that distance. I certainly wont be able to stop
down much if at all.

My only ideas at the moment are to wind the ISO up and try to manage without much DOF.

So, any ideas, tips, suggestions from folk who have been there would be gratefully received. I've
never been before and would really like to come back with some decent shots...

Cheers

Rob

I'd wonder about restrictions about photography too? Really more about the kind of kit you can take in, are DSLR's and long lenses ok? Hopefully there aren't any restrictions Rob, but it would be as well to know in advance. With a bit of luck the Scots aren't as paranoid about it as the rest of the UK :)

cheers

I performed on the Tat in '07, and there were plenty of people with cameras then. The esplenade isn't as huge as people think, and depending which stand you're in, 5 rows back will put you in a decent position, especially as the seating is quite steeply raked. Take the longest lens you can however, as there's usually quite a bit going on on top of the castle; pipers, trumpeters etc. The esplenade is actually very well lit too.

Make sure you get there early, the Royal Mile etc is utter chaos before the show starts!

Good news about the competition (thanks for the link) so they're hardly likely to stop you going in with a DSLR!

you can take in your DSLR, and if your only five rows back your pretty close to the action, the main perfomance arena isnt really that big for whats going on... the whole thing is really well lit so i dont think you will have too much problem with light... this year is pretty special in edinburgh, its the home comming year, im not sure if they are doing it every night but on Saturday there was a fly past by a Harrior Jet, get ready for it just before the show starts...

Chris has pretty well summed it up

After spending 6 nights a week (and 2 on Saturday!) doing that freaking show for 3 weeks you get to know about it

Not looking forward to doing it again

think i read on one of the plane threads on here, that there is a flypast each and every night.
