TC for Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a 1.4/1.5 TC for a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S, I'm a bit confused as there seems to be a little conflicting advice as to what TC's are best.

I'd just buy a Kenko 1.4X Pro DG, I've had the Nikon TC 14E II and the kenko and IMO it's just as good for less than 1/2 the money, there's a DGX version out now but I haven't tried that one.

If you're a badge buyer buy the Nikon TC 14E II

Kenko do a 1.5X but avoid it, not in the same ballpark as the DG
 
I have the Nikon TCE-2 III. Amazing performance, and worth every single penny. :thumbs: I can only imagine the new 1.4 will be the same!!!

I'd recommend any of the following depending on reach required and/or budget:

Nikon 1.4x
Nikon 1.7x
Nikon 2x (Mk 3 version only)
Kenko 1.4x

If the budget will stretch, I'd get a 2nd hand Nikon 1.7x. I use one with my 70-200 mk2, and it's a good compromise between reach and light loss. Also, if you buy 2nd hand you can hopefully sell it for what you paid for it.

If budget wont stretch I'd go for the Kenko 1.4 - but only from hearsay. :)

:plusone: Nikon 2x mkIII is actually as good as the hype. Little bit pricey I thought but it does the job and it does it well so can't complain too much.

Of course, I did stupidly think they would stike when the iron was hot and follow it up with a stunning 1.4x mkIII but in the intervening months Canon seem to have stolen the show on the TC front and we're still in rumourville. I fear old age creeping in first...:tumbleweed::D
 
A Kenko 1.4x has just gone up in the Nikon classifieds, it's that one you want
