TC query

Ive been searching around and reading up on the net regarding a TC for the 'Sal70300g' (Not compatible with nearly all TC's). I managed to pick up a '1.7x Maxxum Promaster Spectrum 7' TC in pristine condition. To my surprise, autofocus it pretty good (in decent light). My 70-300G is f4.5-5.6. With the TC attached and the lens at full zoom, my A700 is still allowing me to shoot at F5.6?? Exif is also showing F5.6 at full zoom??

This isnt right is it?

Why's that? My previous TC worked perfectly. Does this just happen with certain converters?

Yep. It is a dumb TC like my Kenko. It only tranmits EXIF data. Does not correct it.

Does it transmit the correct converted focal length as well? Or does it still say 300mm at the top end of the zoom in the exif? (I'm just curious)

It still shows 300mm Adam.
