Ok im trying out my new monopod and ball head tonight, taking some photos of a football match for a few mates who play for one of the teams.
Its a 450d with 70-300 IS USM lens, so the pod will be mounted on the camera!

Any advice on how to best use the pod at football?
I've shot few games of football before and was relativly happy with the results, bought the monopod for numerous reasons (one of which was to potentially help my football/sports shots!

Cheers
Matt

There isn't much of a "technique" for using a monopod really, its really just to add a bit more stability. For motorsport, it can be useful for panning and shooting in lower lighting but not sure I've come across a "technique" as such.

MY technique would be to leave it in the car. Never been a fan of monopods for capturing moving subjects.

I thought football generally dictated a fairly fast shutter speed which renders the point of a monopod slightly unnecessary. I find it useful for motorsport where a slower shutter speed & long focal lengths can mean camera shake is an issue. Plus its good for beating people with.

Hi Matt,
Monopods come in very handy at footie matches! especially if your being chased by a dozen angry fans! top tip: sharpen the pointy end! LoL

And me, I've tried with them twice now and never got on with either. I'll only ever go back if I'm lucky enough to end up with some glass that is physically too big to hand hold (like a 600mm f4L lens for example :))
