Tele converters and quality

I am thinking of buying a tele 2x converter for my 300mm 1.8 lens has anyone any ideaabout quality loss that might come about.

You mean 300mm f/2.8, I hope? Or 200mm f/1.8?

Either way, they accept teleconverters very well. Of course you will lose a bit of image quality, but not much, and far less than with most other lenses.

2x converters arent that great to be honest. Which 300 2.8 is it that you have?

Stewart it's a EF 200 mm 1,8 L About 15 years old but in great condition I've had it from new, and would love to push it a bit. Great lens by the way if anyone has the chance to get one.

Wow. They don't come much better than the 200/1.8 and I would have absolutely no hesitation at all in using this lens with a Canon 2x Extender. 400mm f/3.5 in a hand-holdable package? Wonderful.
