Hi all

I need some help please. I have just bought a Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 IF-ED with a 1.4 TC III however i get an error when i mount it, (FEE error) the lens wont focus or shoot
Is anyone able to offer any help with this?

Is the teleconverter broken or the lens? Or am i missing something?

My camera is the Nikon D750 I have set the lens to the highest number (32) and locked it into place but still get the error!


 
I'm not 100% certain, but if it's the original 300mm f4 lens you maybe unable to use a teleconvertor with it. Hopefully someone who has the lens will advise more. Is the lens working on it's own without the TC?

Also, you could try cleaning the contacts on the lens and TC.

I thought I read somewhere the version 3 was not compatible with the older 300? But I might be wrong
 
Well by adding a TC you have added 1 stop to the lens making it f5.6, you have then stopped down to f32 if I read you correctly, which is the smallest aperture ( little hole)
Basically you do not have enough light for the camera to focus, put the camera in aperture priority mode set the aperture to f4 ( wide open) and try again.

Not correct, all D lenses need their aperture ring locking at the highest f/stop number, then using the camera to set aperture, the problem is likely that the new MKIII TC isnt suitable for older lenses

I think he means he has set the aperture ring to f32. D lenses have an aperture ring.

I think this may explain things. Sorry it doesn't look like the lens and Teleconverter are compatible. The TC-EII is compatible with that lens.

Because the maximum aperture coupling ridge and minimum aperture signal post are eliminated with the TC-14E III, “FEE” is displayed on the camera body when these lenses are used, disabling shooting.

Yeah just noticed its the Version II that i need not the III - Ah nuts! Oh well, looks like i will have to sell it and purchase the 1.4II
