Hi,
Im sure its all been asked before i just can't happen to find it.
What teleconverters (if any) will still allow auto focus on a D40 using a 18-200mm Nikon F/3.5-5.6 lens and how do i tell what ones will work.

Well no it means you wont need to get one with a focusing screw which the older lenses need for AF

I was intrested in getting a TC-20E for my camera but their seems to be a mix of people saying it will and wont work firstly because the lugs prevent mounting unless you "adapt" the convertor (Nikon suggest it works with any AF-S lens) and other sources suggest the focus point will occur inside the lens!

Be interested in an answer on this myself.

If I recall rightly a 2 x TC will loose you 2 stops of light so it becomes f11 on the 200 end.

IIRC NONE of the Nikon TC's but after doing a search on Google (which you could've done) mentions the Kenko but as to it still AF is another matter - but then again there you can do a search for it :p

It will not work with any of the latest Nikon TC's, I think this is because of the rear element of the lens hitting the front element of the converter.

The Kenko may fit but using a 2x TC on that zoom will not yield very good results, it adds two stops of light so you will be at around f8 - f11 range.
